The 2019 Tax Season is here. The purpose of this post is to explain our process so you will know exactly what to expect and the steps you need to take.
Here’s an overview of the steps:
● Activate your TaxDome account. Not mandatory, but a helpful tool for you to deliver documents to us electronically. The alternative is to mail your tax documents.
● Sign the Leading Edge Tax Planning Agreement and Permission to Share Information Agreement. Look for an eSignature Envelope email to electronically sign. If you would rather print/scan visit the website here or we can mail you a copy. This must be signed before we can complete the tax preparation process.
● Fill out the Taxpayer Checklist. A digital version can be found here. Or a print/scan version can be found on the website here, or in an email sent on 2/8/20.
● Start sending your tax documents. You can upload them to TaxDome or mail them to us. If you have filled out the Taxpayer Checklist, we will be able to help you know what to submit in case you miss something.
● Sit back and relax while we prepare your taxes. Keep an eye out for updates on where you are in the process and whether any additional documents are needed.
More detailed information on each of these steps can be found in the drop-down list below:
Activate your TaxDome account. Enables electronic document sharing
Beginning in early January we began sending invites through TaxDome, which is a customer relationship manager software that helps us communicate and collect documents from our clients. Thanks to everyone who has already signed up.
It’s not mandatory that you adopt this new software, but we think you’ll love using the mobile app. You can conveniently take pictures of W2’s or other documents and have them automatically uploaded to TaxDome.
Our ultimate goal is to provide the best client experience possible. So, if you would rather mail in your documents, that’s perfectly fine as well. Let us know and we can provide a convenient self-addressed envelope.
.
eSignature Envelopes. Authorizes us to start your tax preparation
During the last week of January we began sending eSignature Envelopes through email. The purpose of these eSignature Envelopes is to provide a convenient method for everyone to sign our Leading Edge Tax Planning Agreement and Permission to Share Information Agreement. We ask that both spouses sign each agreement when applicable. These two documents are mandatory and must be filled out before we are able to finalize your tax preparation.
If you missed the email we encourage you to search your inbox for “eSignature Envelope”. If you would like to access a copy online, visit the following link. If you don’t have the ability to conveniently print and scan, we are more than happy to mail this document to you with a self-addressed envelope so you can easily return it to us.
Taxpayer Checklist. Helps us understand your specific situation
On February 8th we emailed the Taxpayer Checklist. We created two versions of this document in order to make this as easy as possible. Version one is a form that can be printed and filled out by hand. That form can be found on our website here. The second version is in the format of a Google Form. Use this if you prefer digital over filling it out by hand.
No matter which option you choose, this document captures important information about your particular tax situation that will allow us to more accurately accomplish your tax preparation. Based on your responses, we will know whether or not certain tax forms will be applicable to you.
We ask that you please take the time to fill out this form so we can ensure a smooth and accurate tax preparation experience.
Client Agreement & Permission to Share Forms. Authorizes LETP to prepare your taxes
Once you have filled out the Taxpayer Checklist, we are ready to start receiving your tax documents. The easiest method is through TaxDome mentioned above, but if you’re not technologically savvy or have a large number of documents we suggest either mailing the documents to our office or request a self-addressed return envelope from a member of our team.
We know this is a lot of information to take in, but if you have any questions about anything, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Throughout the process we will keep you informed about the progress of your tax preparation. If you have special circumstances such as not being able to file an extension, be sure to let us know.
Thanks for allowing Leading Edge Tax Planning to serve you!
